Workshop questions resolved
Useful answers explain where they stop. These starting points help you ask a better question; they do not replace inspection or exact vehicle documentation.
Does a suspension lift increase ground clearance everywhere?
No. On a live-axle vehicle, lifting the suspension does not by itself raise the axle housing. It changes other clearances and may change geometry and stability. Assess your exact suspension architecture. Read the suspension guide.
Will heavy-duty springs increase my legal payload?
Not by themselves. Springs can change load support and ride height, but they do not automatically change approved axle or gross vehicle limits. Any formal rating change requires the applicable approval process. Begin with measured axle loads.
What tyre pressure should I use off road?
There is no universal figure. Load, construction, wheel compatibility, speed and terrain all matter. Use manufacturer guidance and application-specific advice, and restore suitable road pressures before road-speed travel. Understand pressure trade-offs.
Are larger tyres always the best first upgrade?
No. They can change clearance but also gearing, braking, steering loads, mass and fitment requirements. Start with terrain, tyre condition and the limits of the current vehicle. Review diameter consequences.
Should I fit a differential locker before changing gearing?
That depends on the problem. A locker addresses some traction differences; gearing changes the relationship between engine speed and wheel effort. Diagnose the limitation and assess component loads before choosing either. Trace the drivetrain system.
Can a transport tie-down be used as a recovery point?
Do not assume so. Use attachment points explicitly intended and documented for the proposed recovery duty. Never use a tow ball as a recovery attachment. Unknown purpose or mounting suitability is a reason to stop. Check the complete load path.
Does a bigger winch make every recovery safe?
No. Resistance, anchor suitability, mounting, connectors, rope condition and people remain part of the system. Ratings must be interpreted using the equipment instructions, and practical training is essential. Read the planning guide.
Why did vibration appear after my suspension lift?
Possible causes include changed driveline angles, wheel and tyre issues, worn joints or installation faults. Record speed and load dependence and arrange a model-specific inspection rather than assuming a single cause. Build a diagnostic sequence.
Can I post a build thread or send a report through this site?
This edition is an editorial resource, not a live forum. Build discussions are prompts. The contact tool prepares a report locally for copying or downloading; it does not submit anything. Open the report tool.
What information makes a technical question useful?
Include exact vehicle details, terrain, load, tyre specification, modifications, symptom conditions and checks already completed. Remove personal identifiers and stop driving if steering, braking or component security is in doubt. Structure your observations.
